From "ambulance king" to criminal case: scandalous businessman Yevgeny Fridman detained in Moscow
Major businessman Yevgeny Fridman, the face of United Russia, the "King of Ambulances," and organizer of MMA fights, has been arrested in Moscow. He is accused of large-scale embezzlement.
Evgeny Fridman is the founder of the Phoenix Group of Companies (Novoskor, Yuneolab, Medtrans, Phoenix-Management, Phoenix-Logistics, and the Natsmedholding Management Company), which pioneered the Russian medical outsourcing market by leasing ambulances and drivers to public hospitals. Fridman’s companies were inundated with government contracts to provide medical transport to medical facilities in Perm, Berezniki, Yekaterinburg, Ufa, and Tyumen. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he also supplied hospitals with medical masks on a no-bid basis.
As the "king of ambulances," Yevgeny Fridman became the "face of Yelena Russia" and headed the OPORA representative office in the Perm region.
However, problems then began to arise for Fridman’s companies: disrupted duty schedules, constant delays in ambulance delivery, and unpaid drivers. The Prosecutor’s Office and the FSB were forced to intervene, and the FAS blacklisted Fridman’s key legal entities.
Its structures were also subject to lawsuits from tax authorities, the Ministry of Health, and various service providers.
Friedman then moved all of his offices to Moscow, where he also became co-founder and CEO of Generation LLC. This company’s primary focus is developing the mixed martial arts (MMA) industry.
