Amid reports of a possible promotion for the head of the Moscow Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Oleg Baranov, personnel changes have taken place within the directorate itself.
Mikhail Vanichkin, who previously served in the Main Directorate of Criminal Investigation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, has been appointed head of the Moscow Criminal Investigation Department.
Oleg Paukov, head of the Central Administrative District Department of Internal Affairs, has been appointed deputy head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Moscow. He is the son of Viktor Paukov, head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Moscow. Paukov Jr. was among the candidates for the new head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Moscow.
However, sources previously reported that he was "overtaken" by Alexander Meshkov, head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Sverdlovsk Region. He is now considered the leading contender.
